My father, in a recent issue of a local newspaper, made his case for equitable billing of garbage services for the citizens of his home county. As I understand it, some are paying for this service while others are taking advantage of the system and having theirs picked up free of charge. It seems that, as the law is written, garbage pick up is mandatory regardless of whether or not you are paying for this service. Although I currently reside in Florida, I am concerned about this because I intend to return to my/his home county in the future.

This situation is but a small example of the absurdities being promulgated by the “leadership” of our entire nation. The local leadership solution? Just increase the garbage bill for those that already pay their fair share! The national leadership solution? Just increase taxes for those of us that already pay more than our fair share!

We've got illegal immigrants pouring across our borders and able-bodied “citizens”, too sorry to do a days work, taking advantage of social programs that were intended to help those that need help, government bailouts providing severance pay to the very people responsible for the economic mess we're in…the list goes on and on. Have the people of these United States become so complacent that we will accept, without question, the runaway spending policies that continue to fund broken social programs and bailouts of corrupt or inept corporate America? Where is the outrage?

The Preamble to the United States Constitution says: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America”. The Declaration of Independence says: “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

I can't find anything in the Constitutional Preamble about social programs. It says “promote the general welfare”, but not a word about providing a living for anyone. As for the Declaration of Independence, theres nothing that promises anything more than the liberty to pursue ones own happiness and presumes that people will not infringe on the rights of others to do the same.

I am the proud son of an Air Force veteran that spent time overseas to protect the interests of this country. He and my mother taught me to work for what I want and to have respect for my elders, my country, our military and our government. With the current State of the Union, I am having a great deal of difficulty maintaining any respect for our government. Campaign speeches from both parties promoted “bringing change to Washington”. Sounds good, but until all of us say no more, nothing will change. Where has government “by the People, for the People” gone?

So much money, that could be used to properly fund benefits for our veterans and other worthy causes, is being wasted on programs to provide for people that are capable of providing for themselves. Surely I am not alone in my way of thinking. If this sounds to you like an inflammatory hardline stance, I stand guilty. If you are offended by the words of this writer, I have made my point, and perhaps you will join me, and together with one loud voice we can say NO MORE!
